Our story

Why soil2supper exists

It began in the foothills of the Himalayas, in my grandfather's fields, where I learned that food tastes better when you know who grows it.

Hi, I am Ankur. soil2supper began in the foothills of the Himalayas.

I grew up spending summers with my grandparents in Himachal Pradesh, in the north of India, where my grandfather farmed a piece of land tucked into the hills. There were crops in the fields, cattle in the yard, and chickens underfoot. Mornings smelled of soil and woodsmoke. Food came from a few steps away, picked or gathered the same day, and it tasted like it.

Those summers left a mark. As a boy, I was captivated by all of it, the animals, the open land, the quiet rhythm of a place that grew its own food. And I was spoiled, in the best way, by how good fresh food could taste when it came straight from the earth and the people who tended it.

Years later, I moved to North America. Life was good, but something was missing from the table. The tomatoes did not taste like the ones from my grandfather's garden. It was hard to know where food came from, who grew it, or how. The connection I had felt so naturally as a child, between the land, the farmer, and the meal, had quietly disappeared.

I started looking for it again. I wanted to eat fresh, honestly raised food, and to know the people behind it. What I found instead was a gap. Wonderful farmers, ranchers, fishers, and makers were out there doing beautiful work, but they were hard to find, and even harder to buy from directly. The middle had swallowed the story.

That gap is why soil2supper exists.

I built soil2supper to bring back what those Himalayan summers taught me: that food tastes better, and means more, when you know who grows it. My promise is simple. Help you find the real people near you who raise, grow, and make good food, and let you connect with them directly. No middlemen. No mystery. Just clean, honest food, and the folks who pour their hearts into it.
